Summary and definition:
The history of the Modern Era has been dominated by the terrorist attacks that started with the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, the 9/11 Terrorist Attack on the World Trade Center and the Anthrax scare that reminded Americans of the threat of chemical weapons. Conflict with the Middle East escalated and the United States became involved in the Gulf War and the Afghanistan War.

At home the nation was hit by the devastating economic crisis known as the Credit Crunch and the subsequent recession.  Life changed forever with development of communications and technology with the emergence of the Internet and the mobile cell phone. The leaders of the country who were elected president during the Modern Era , and helped to make United States History, were George H Bush, Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Barack Obama.
